Rockville Science East Renovation 10/11/2011

The Science East building has been emptied of College inventory and the building turned over to remediation contractors for the remediation of asbestos prior to renovation work. It is anticipated that the remediation work will continue through the month of October and November 2011. The building should be turned over to the general contractor some time in December 2011 to begin demolotion and renovation work.

Central Facilities is preparing the first addendums to the renovation scope of work which will include some IT items related to projection screens, classroom projectors and possibly contract requirements.

Rockville Science East Renovation

All occupants of the Science East building have been moved to new locations either in the new Science Center or into Science West. Clean out of building has begun under the leadership of Central Facilities. The Science East building was offically closed to the general public on August 17, 2011. IT is in the process of removing that building infrastructure that will be re-used in other College locations. The tentative schedule for the building is;

• Remediation of Asbestos September - November 2011


• General Renovation December 2011 - December 2012


• Re-Opening Spring/Summer 2013

Progress Update

Classrooms closed after the spring 2011 semester have been identified, along with classrooms that will close after the second summer 2011 session. SIWS from these classrooms will be removed and relocated to renovated Science West classrooms in late August 2011 prior to the beginning of the fall 2011 semester.

The Science East building will be closed by September 26, 2011 to allow for the beginning of demolotion activities to start Oct. 1, 2011.

Building is tentatively scheduled to re-open Spring 2013.

Progress Update

The tentative move schedule for Science East occupants into the new Science Center has been published. Early movers will move out during May-June 2011. Late mover will move into vacated spaces in Science West during July-August 2011. Bid of the renovation construction is scheduled for late summer 2011, with early renovation work beginning in early fall 2011.

Facilities is working on a list of classroom in SE that will not be used after the end of the spring 2011 semester (May 2011). From that list IT will begin looking at potential timing for the re-location of SIWS's from SE into SW.

Reviewed the 95% constructions drawings with FIP group on Jan 5th and 6th.
Met with ITV ton January 11th to review ITV locations and confirm the locations are accurate.
Met with telephone group to review 95% phone locations.
Met with IT and NE group to review the 95% CD.
Sent additional comments from the meeting with the cabling and NE group to facilities.
